Speech Pathologist Cover Letter
It is not intended as an employment contract nor is it intended to describe all duties someone in this position may perform. Select Office Locations to view a map of the state. The Tuscaloosa District encompasses the red counties around Tuscaloosa and the yellow counties around Selma. This is the coverage area for the Tuscaloosa SLP. The majority of the work would occur in medical and evaluation clinics in either the Tuscaloosa or Selma office.
A list of clinics is located under the Clinics tab. All clinics are multidisciplinary and have a clinic coordinator. All clinics are scheduled and generally known in advance for the year. Children birth up to age 21 are eligible for services based on accepted medical diagnoses. All children are eligible for information and referral services from our staff, regardless of diagnosis.
Clinics statewide operate on a set schedule, for example, the 2nd Tuesday of each month may be reserved for the Augmentative Communication Technology ACT Clinic in the Tuscaloosa office. The speech pathologist serves as the clinic coordinator for ACT Clinic. SLPs also participate in Feeding clinic, coordinated by a registered dietician nutritionist; Cleft Palate clinic; Neuro-Ortho clinic; Hearing clinics, and other clinics as needed. Training is provided on-the-job, especially in the area of augmentative communication.
Salary is based on a set state scale and can be located on the Personnel Department website.
Current salary is taken into consideration but salary for the position cannot exceed what state personnel has it capped at. Skills needed of our SLP staff are: the ability to self-manage a schedule; maintain timely and accurate documentation; complete reports for varied payer sources to justify the purchase of augmentative communication devices; complete documentation for clinics attended; make recommendations for outpatient therapy services when needed; work with a multi-disciplinary team for all clinic evaluations; communicate effectively with co-workers, families, and community support services; and provide training to clients, families, caregivers, and school systems on communication strategies and communication devices.
